Conversations
Here's some of the nerdy and funny conversations I overheard or talked about in the past couple of years. So, I think I need to refresh. :D
Calc 1 Teacher: I think it's really nerdy for professors in the department to name their dogs in the name of scientists. So, I named my fish in the name of Mathematician.
Studying Physiology
Rob (quizzing each other): Tell me the flow chart of Penile Erection Reflex.
Me: Ugh... I studied it last night but now I can't remember.
Rob: How dare u forgot this?
Tutoring chemistry to a Junior High school girl
Me: woo, TI 89 calc; you know I have the same one too.
Student: Ya, I bought because that's the most expensive in the store.
Me: I think I only have time to date during the summer.
Kyle: Like what, an internship?
Me: Yap, applications are out.
(Anne and I are at the Genetics professor's office where half of the table are filled with fruit flies test tubes.)
Me: Wow, Fruitflies in test tubes. That's so cool.
Professor; What? U hungry?
Me: Oh, I can take some but Anne is a vegetarian.
Genetics Discussion Section
We are solving a problem about a girl having recessive gene diseases which are a cystic fibrosis and knee patella, about how many of her kids would have that disease but the text book was wrong.
TA: Let's give up on this; I will ask the professor.
Me: Ya, right. Who would want to go out with a person without knee caps.
Anne: You asians are smart. I think there's something wrong with it.
Me: Possibly mutation.
Anne: No, epistasis.
A visit to the nuclear reactor
Professor Choe: At the bottom of the reactor, you can find so many things like name batches, glasses and watches.
Particle Physics Professor
- Particle decays in terms of atomic mass unit are so cute.
- (At the reactor) If something goes wrong, the alarm lights will be all up in the control room like christmas tree.
Math 3160 professor:
- Problems at this level, you normally do what you have to do and hope for the best it is still true.
- (after four blackboard long derivation) I think I erased what to prove.
Sigmund: Long distance relationships are like dating a computer.
Nate: Pre-meds are intense in my physiology class.
Me: Ya, they are neurotic.
Nate: I hope I don’t see them in med school.
Zach: Why didn't you come to thermodynamics homework group section?
Me: I think it's too much entropy in the Physics Rotunda.
Me: Physics is way cooler that Electrical engineering. You guys are just using our theories.
Hun: But you guys have no idea how to apply.
Me: Now you are arguing like a girl.
Me: So I stop drink because I can't differentiate when I'm drunk.
My friend: Oh, I thought you stopped because the other worse things you've done so far when you're drunk.
Me: What could be worse than me sucking at Math?
Kyle: You don't really have to say you are in the marching band if you think it's too nerdy. Just say that you are in drumline instead.
Me: I think being in a physics dpt is good enough to be nerdy.
On a date
Boy; Skii movie?
Girl: No, Sex and the City?
Boy: Nah..................... Oh you know what, I found a cool lecture online about a string theory.
Girl: Aha, let's watch that instead.
High School Chemistry Teacher in Burma: When I was working for government, they told the research department to earn cash like other departments, so we decided to sell BBQ on the street just in front of research park.
After Biology Chapter 10: Reproduction lecture in senior year high school
SZP (right after teacher left): OK, girls, who wanna go to practical with me for chapter 10?
High school Math tuition
U Tun Yee: Look at the naughty triangle.
Us: What?
U Tun Yee: I mean Triangle BAD.
Me: Why we have to learn about f(x) funtions?
U Tun Yee: Because they make the math a lot easier.
Me: Well, they are not easy on me right now though.
High School Biology Teacher in Burma (Actually, he was really mad about our low midterm scores.)
U Tin Hlaing (in front of people in class): Pyone Pwint, what did your mom tell you about why you need great biol score to get into medical school? What did your mom teach you?
Me: My mom said if i get a degree from medical school, I will get a rich husband.
PS: In case, you don't know my mom is a doctor. :D
I will add more if I remember more.

Timbaland - If We Ever Meet Again ft. Katy Perry
I hate my brain; why? because I always have at least one song stuck in my head and I don't like it since it's so annoying.
So this song is been in my brain for a while.
I remember how it get stuck;
So, I was driving to my friend at the airport like a week ago and the radio aired this song.
I am like oh, I love this song and my friend asked who sang this song. It's Timbaland ft. Katy Perry.
Then, he claimed that he didn't hear Timbaland's voice at all and I am like, ya there is!
Then we argue for a while and ever since then, that freaking song is stuck in my freaking head..
Well, I need another song to remove this earbug..
Any Suggestions???

"Leisure" by William Henry Davis
LEISURE
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty’s glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
The poem from 11th Grade text book but for no reason, this poem runs in my head today. :)
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs

Stress, weight and shopping spree.
Hello again,
Long time no post. Of course, I am writing again since finals are getting close and I am finding each and every possible way to procrastinate. teehee....
Today I am wondering about my stress relief options. Well, to be honest, my most stressful days were in high school. I had to worry about all those craps like what if I don't get into college or what if I don't get over 95 in science subjects. Those times, I don't even think it's stress because stress is all in all what I have to have the whole time. It keeps me motivated and stay on track.
Well, as I am in college today, I honestly hate stress in college. Stress is my biggest fear. Stress is my biggest enemy. Stress keeps me down. Plus, there's no mom to make me good food when I am feeling gloomy and no friend wanna listen about school stress the whole time since they have their own stress too. So, my body and mind automatically find ways to relieve stress.
When I was freshman, my body found a not very fabulous way to release a stress. "EATING" Eating, eating and keep eating .......... food and science classes were the only two things I actively participate the whole freshmen year. oh ya.... of course, I gained weight. It's like two of freshmen 15. I gained 30 pounds and 2 dress sizes. boo..........
Second year, I didn't have any academic stress issues because I didn't study at all. lol.... I partied day and night. When I had social problems or relationship problems, again, I ate. So extra 10 lbs from 2nd year of college.
Totally that adds up to around 40 lbs extra package to my body when I enter my junior year and I can't wear normal size anymore. I remembered buying size 14 jeans for Victoria's secret online store just before 3rd year starts. That's so embarrassing. Think about it.... what could go worst while Victoria's secrets models' smiles are like mocking at my brand new plus size...
Ding ding ding ding... It was totally wake up call.... I need to exercise and stop emotional eating... duh.... right now, after 8 months of hitting gym hard, I lost 20 lbs and 2 dress sizes. Well still more to go..... I have to exercise way a lot more since I can't diet.. My brain needs oxygen and enough energy to burn through these science classes. So I have to exercise even more to overcome what I eat... that's horrible..
But I slowed down and keep an eye on what i eat though. It's so hard since fast food been part of my lift for good old two years...
Since I stop eating crappy foods, where does my stress relief strategy go? oh ya.... SHOPPING... you have no idea how much I shopped in the past 7 months... good thing that I have a lot of clothes to choose when I go to class.. lol... usually all I have is track jackets and active wear pants...
My shopping spree is getting worse especially this past two weeks, right after I get out from the appendectomy surgery. Since I can't hit the gym hard or lift weights because of surgery or eat crappy foods but also finals are like right around the corner. "STRESS" Oh ya, so I shopped.... Well, I just come back from my solo shopping.. :D
Would I stop? No, I am not stopping.....:P
PP
PS: I can't wait to get back to the gym....

DSHR... It's official now....
Yes, it's official now. I am now a member of DSHR from Redcross.
DSHR means Disaster Services Human Resources.
So, if there's a disaster whether natural disaster or man-made one, DSHR members from all across the country got deployed to that area and serve the victims with food, shelter and clothing. Yes, DSHR members are one of those people who are distributing food or taking care of the victims as we've seen in the news.
It's funny how I got involved with DSHR. I went to the Red Cross to complete the new volunteer orientation in order to become First Aid/CPR instructor but instead of that I went into the wrong class which is the very first orientation for DSHR.... yes a big LOL

But, I have been wanted to be a member of this team for a while but the training classes are offered only like twice a year and most of the time, I am not free at all.
I finished two introductory classes almost like a year ago but I have been procrastinating and am really busy with school to complete my status as DSHR volunteer.
Yayy....During this spring break, I did the most effective thing by going through two more mandatory classes to be a DSHR member.
As I said, now I am ready to be deployed to the newly disaster hit areas by RedCross.

So if I get deployed, I have to serve in that particular area for two weeks.
Hopefully, by the time I get called, I don’t have midterms or loads of homework going on and the professors would understand the work, the dedication and the effort that the Red Cross volunteers would put into.

What’s my next step? To be a member of DAT.
DAT means Disaster Action Team and the members are on call 24/7 on every three weeks to respond to local emergencies like house fires and earthquakes.
But I have to get trained around 4 or 5 more DSHR classes to be an awesome team member.

Krwling - Linkin Park
Woot... I haven't blogged for a while. As I'm in a college, we all have one of those weeks where everything collides together and I don't even have time to eat regularly. Sad face....
Anyway, today at work and I'm browsing around on youtube and I found this.
British ice dancers danced to the Linkin Park's Krwling (Remix of Crawling) at 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
Well, they didn't win a medal but it was quite the stir to dance their "free dance" to one hell of a rock remix.
Ice dancing is one of the categories on Figure Skating competitions.
Just so you know, I can barely stand and glide on the ice but I love watching skating related sport.
Not to mention, how much I heart Linkin Park and their first debut single, "Crawling". :)
This version is from the remix album but as we all know, LP always rocks. :)

Particle Physics
Well, I might not be the smart ass like those physics folks or so but some part of me totally thoroughly enjoy doing Physics related activities.
Are those fun?
Yeah..... Not all the time. There are some times that I am so lost in the material and also there are times that Physics can make you feel like a rockstar.
This semester, I am taking upper division Physics class. It's called Phys 5110 - Introduction to Particle Physics. Sounds awesome, huh?
How is the course material?
Either you are rock star or rock bottom. ~.~
The largest particle we deal with in the class will be the Hydrogen atom (the smallest atom in the periodic table) and we are calculating the particles that we cannot even see with the naked eye.
But hey, I am a reductionist. :D
But the fascinating thing about particle physics is that how the particles work properly and their mathematical equations solved beautifully even though their physical sense is way beyond our league.
So here is the example;
the mean life-time (the time that the material will be gone about e times of its original) of a u-meson particle is 2x10^-6 second. (2 millionth of a second). Basically, it's very very fast that the particle disappears and for me, at first, it sounds so surreal.
So, how are we gonna measure about these tiny particles?
People are familiar with Einstein's relativity theory, that when a particle travels nearly the speed of light, the time dilates for that mater
If u-mesons are traveling with very very fast speed, their decay time becomes longer and the particles stays longer and so that we can measure its properties...
I just thought it's very cool. :D
Just wanna let you know that physics is not a hell hole like we mythically believe in.
It won't explain stuffs as well as particular Gods do but you can actually feel things and nobody can say physics make things up.....
Just some thoughts I had in past few days u know

Favorite Superbowl Commercial
Well, in US, nearly everybody is having a superbowl fever. Well, I watched the highlights and New Orleans Saints won over Indianapolis Colts. Well, I am not a big fan of both of them; so no hard feelings. ;-) Anyway, I love watching superbowl commercials. I heard that they made it especially for superbowl game.
Here's my favorite one.
It's called "Parisan Love". Basically, it's so cute.

This Moment
I am usually the type of person who wants to have everything planned out in life but you know this is pretty hard when you grow older and when things got complicated.
Things haven't been going so well last year including my school, relationships and also my health status. So this semester, I decided to live in week-to-week basis, not thinking about the future, the finals or aftermath of graduation or not worrying what to eat tomorrow or what I'm gonna study next week.
Anyway, I was looking at my last month's planner and it made me smile. My day planner proves that I was actually really busy the whole January but I don't feel like I am busy at all since I am not thinking about the actions I would do. I don't basically have to stress out on my actions and outcomes and overall, I am less stressed.
So this is the moment I got caught in, the moment of satisfaction, the moment of peace and calmness before all the craziness of Physics Homeworks and lousy OChem reactions and MCAT prep stuffs, come again in this coming week.
Thought I should write this moment down, :-)

Umm...Horoscope???
I am neutral about horoscopes. Born in the orthodox Burmese family, we believe in horoscopes but in the mean time, predicting what will happen in your future by somebody else sounds totally absurds for me but I read horoscopes every now and then either when I'm down or when I feel bored.
Today, one of my friends, send me one.
Of course, I'm reading it because I'm bored at work but this time I have something to say about it.
Here is the overall,
GEMINI - The Twin
Nice. Love is one of a kind. Great listeners.. Very Good at confusing
people... Lover not a fighter, but will still knock you out. Geminis
will not take any crap from anyone. Geminis like to tell people what
they should do and get offended easily. They are great at losing
things and are forgetful. Geminis can be very sarcastic and childish
at times and are very nosey. Trustworthy. Always happy. VERY Loud.
Talkative. Outgoing. VERY FORGIVING. Loves to make out. Has a
beautiful smile. Generous. Strong. THE MOST IRRESISTIBLE.
OK, as a Gemini myself, let me analyze by one stem by one stem.
Nice. Love is one of a kind. Great listeners.. Lover not a fighter, but will still knock you out
- It's a complete joke!
Very Good at confusing people...
- Probably that's the best line on the whole paragraph
Geminis will not take any crap from anyone.
- Which star sign will take a crap from anybody?
They are great at losing things and are forgetful.
- I m better at breaking things (like crashing ipods, bumping into other cars, dropping my laptop or bending my dorm key)
- Forgetful? Excuse me!!! That's so not true. I remember daily things in a way that I don't even wanna remember it anymore. :S
Loves to make out. Has a beautiful smile. Generous. Strong. THE MOST IRRESISTIBLE.
- So if I wanna admit myself that I have a beautiful smile, do I have to agree on "loves to make out" too.....ummm
Always happy. VERY Loud. Talkative. Outgoing.
- I just thought it's just me and some few other people.
Suppose that all the geminis are loud and talkative and there are 12 star signs for all people, so can i assume that 1/12 of the human population is loud and talkative?
Oh no, that would be a disaster. ;)
Trustworthy
- I will take credit on that. *wink*
Geminis can be very sarcastic and childish at times and are very nosey.
- Hell ya, why do you think I'm writing this note?
I still remember the quote that my Particle Physics professor said in class last week; The real calendar is actually about a month faster than the current calendar according to these spins and orbitals. You might probably wanna look at the horoscope of one star sign ahead.
Anyway, I would rather write my own horoscope.

2010 Resolution
I have been doing a lot of thinking whether I should publish my new year resolutions or not but at one point, I made myself very clear. If I write it down in private, I would probably be lazy to accomplish them. If some of you read it, you will probably be thinking of these parameters at the next time you see me in person. :) So, I think it's a pretty good challenge.
Here they come,
2010 Resolution List
1. Go to class everyday.
2. Exercise every other day.
3. Slow down social life and not to romantically involve with anyone to the extremity.
4. Get good MCAT score.
5. Call Dad every week.
6. Reduce spending time online. (These include extreme facebooking and watching TV shows until 4 in the morning and browsing around in wikipedia in a reason that I need information to write a paper.) :/
Yes, those might sound easy. But think all six facts in an opposite way (Ditching classes, getting fat, losing the grip on my GPA, parties and being not close to the family)
These things are my biggest enemies who won over me for the past two years! Well, I learned a lot from them but I think it's about time to practice what I learned.
Happy New Year to you all,

Last Post in 2000s
I have been blogging since 2008 and been through the rough edges of blogging!
Mostly I wrote posts in Burmese at MyHome16 before all the members decided to stop.
Sad news - My laptop got a bug when downloading some rock music.
So I won't be able to write in Burmese for a while! Ahint Ahint
Happy brand new 2010 to you all,
I'm so ready for a new decade...

Open Letter: To Haruka Kumoro
It’s been six months that you left the University to go back to Japan. I never wanted you to go back but well but the time had come.
I exactly do not remember how we became such close friends but all I remember is of all the crazy things we have done together.
Do you remember
- the times we went to roasting company, sat at the patio and gossip about boys who are studying across the room?
- you and Angie were five minutes late at gateway and I was so pissed for being 5 minutes late. “So….”?
- our laughs? “hihihihihihihi”
- we followed the car on the foothill because I said the guy is cute, so we chased after his car and when I catch that car, stopped in the middle of the lane so that you can look at him? (ha ha…that was the best time)
- you were the right wing and I was the left wingt?
- that we tried to camp so many times and failed all the time?
- you took my ring at one party, wore it at left ring finger and said we were married? ;-)
- we went to Park City shopping outlet even though I have no idea where I’m driving?
- 300 – Cash only? :P
- the minigolf being too mini in Lava Springs, Idaho?
- the dorimon sketch of youeun that we made at starbucks? :P
- Hun’s shaking leg? (I still try to stop him, well at least some times)
- the Himalayan kitchen? (soooooooo good)
- oh, most importantly, the seat belt ticket? :P
- also there are many friends of mine at the court who were also paying for the ticket?
- at Ko Ko Kitchen, “pam” became “ham”?
- at Forever 21, we got 5 rings for 4$? ;-)
- Branden’s spring roll party? (ahemm ahemm) :D
- the sneezing panda and the ejector water tubing seat on youtube?
- our gym pack with starbucks venti so that we won’t be even 5 mins late?
- the drawings on the name tags?
- that I got the random idea for you to make babies with Bryce while we are at Smith’s?
- the times I hit you with a door because we have to run since Sunku and Hyejin is coming and again I hit your head with a dumbbell at the gym? (sorryyyyyyyyyyyyyy)
- the beautifulness in the rock climbing paper?
- the strip club on your last day? (lmao at our choice of activity) :D
- that I cooked hot pot but bought too much meat?
- last but not least, the tequila and us? lol
I hope you miss me too. I still talk about how positive you are and how considerate you are to me. I wish this is not the end of journey for both of us and I hope we still keep in touch many years.
Love u tons,

Finals are DONE
School for 2009 is totally completely over and I am overjoyed to have a break!!
weeee! :D
What's my plan for winter break?
Well, I am going back home at San Francisco....so looking forward to hang out with family and friends.
Also super stoked for Las Vegas and Grand Canyon trip.
Can't wait to hang out with my little brother; jam some music, play xbox and talk about physics. (yap, that's the most exciting part!) :)
What's my plan for 2010?
I don't know!!
Right now, I haven't even registered for classes at University of Utah.
May be I would move to UCBerkeley for this spring semester.
Or I would take a semester break to study MCAT.
Well, that's the thing I need to decide during the break.
Ugh... who cares....It's THE HOLIDAYS now. woot woot...
Anyway, Happy Holidays everybody.
May your wishes come true.
It's time for you to get some hot cocoa and go Christmas shopping and make a good use of mistletoe. :)
With overjoy,

Repost: တစ္ခါက အခ်စ္ဆုံးသုိ႔
It's one of the very few I ever wrote. Normally, I have bunch of sketches but never came out as a full fiction. I wrote this especially to post www.myhome16.blogspot.com on December 17, 2008 which is exactly a year ago.
The feelings are still there even if this is a repost.
Hope you can enjoy. :)

The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory is the Hit sitcom currently running at CBS on Monday nights which I totally heart.
The story line based on two roommates who are Theoretical Physicist Sheldon Cooper and Experimental Physicist Leonard Hofstadter and the waitress/actress Penny who lives across the floor.
Although Sheldon is prodigy, he's socially awkward and most of the comedies are based on how nerdy they are.
Love it, love it and love it.
